Beginner Lesson:

To give you a head start before you go running off to book yourself a surf lesson, here is a perfect example of the sort of lesson you will receive when booking in with a surf school. When starting out in surfing make sure you know the beach you are about to surf. Know your environment, the rips, the tides and what the swell is doing. For all of this information and more, be sure to sign up and check out this page.

How are waves created:

The first thing you want to learn in surfing is how waves are created. Having a good understanding of how a wave is formed and most importantly what causes hollow waves that can be dangerous when starting out in surfing verses flat faced waves which are ideal for learning and brushing up on your basics. Waves are energy created by wind and move like a pulse/frequency through the water until it comes in to the coastline and the transition of your beach (or reef) and falls over, how steep the transition of your beach/reef  will determine how steep/flat faced your wave will be. How strong the wind that is blowing out in the ocean will determine how big the size of the waves will be.
